Did you know that most network marketers quit or jump
to another program just when they're on the verge of
success?
I've seen it happen over and over again during my 13
years in the business. Sometimes I just shake my head
when I see the same people do it over and over and over
again in one program after another.
Why such a high failure rate? And why does it happen
when they are just about to jump solidly in the black?
I've thought about this question for over 12 years.
I've had many eager people join my downline, work like
crazy for a few months, then slowly disappear. If
you've been in this business for very long, you know
exactly what I'm talking about!
The reason I'm often given by these would-be
entrepreneurs is that my program "just doesn't work."
Or "MLM doesn't work."
Another version is that X program is too slow, or
already has so many people that it's saturated. So
they've joined the brand new Australian trinary super-
dooper sponsoring system that's sweeping the country!
What is really common about all these people is that
they don't understand how MLM works. In fact, all of
these people were successful in "my" program. They just
didn't know it.
Their definition of success was whether they were
earning hundreds, or thousands, of dollars a month
after a few months of work. After all, as most of
the hypesters will tell you, you can earn thousands of
dollars in just 30 days in THEIR program! So my program
just must not work!
Unfortunately, if they bought this hype and jumped
ship, they quickly found to their dismay that their new
program "didn't work" either!
This just isn't how MLM works or was designed to work,
no matter how many ads tell you otherwise!
I'm not sure why this "revolving door" syndrome is so
true of most people who start an MLM business. But I
suspect that it's because they've never sat down and
thought about how exponential growth (and big
commission checks) really happen in an MLM program.
They just don't get how MLM really works.
And if you don't get how MLM works, you can't know when
it's working for you. Because your first few months,
perhaps even your first year in this business, you are
almost certainly going to think that you're not getting
anywhere! And you'd be very wrong.
You see, MLM doesn't work like any other business. It
doesn't work like an affiliate program. Even though
many affiliate programs have borrowed certain aspects
from MLM, they are all about making one-time sales. MLM
programs are about building NETWORKS and RESIDUAL
INCOME and ONGOING sales.
Let me show you an example. June Wanna-be-rich has been
working a job she hates for many years. The harder she
works, it seems, the less she is appreciated. And the
small income she makes for all that work hardly pays
her bills. She is at the point when just thinking about
work makes her sick! She knows she needs a change, but
doesn't want another dead-end job.
But along comes Joe Recruiter, who shows her the magic
of MLM. He is a distributor for Vitamins 'R Us, which
has a brand-new trinary, Australian Spillover System
that practically guarantees that she'll be making six
figures in just a few months.
The pay plan is really very simple, he shows June. The
Vitamins 'R Us matrix has just 5 levels and each level
pays $5 per person.
All she has to do is just get 5 people who get their 5
people who get their 5 people down her matrix - and
then she'll be making $19,525 a month, or $234,300 a
year!!!
Not a bad income for just sponsoring 5 people, am I
right?
And how many thousands of times have you heard this
very same scheme by thousands of recruiters and MLM
companies?
And how many times has it ever worked that way for you?
Probably never!
And it's not that the math is wrong. A 5 X 5 matrix
paying $5 per person per month DOES total up to $19,525
a month.
Level 1: 5 people X $5 = $ 25
Level 2: 25 people X $5 = 125
Level 3: 125 people X $5 = 625
Level 4: 625 people X $5 = 3,125
Level 5: 3,125 people X $5 = 15,625
____________
Total Monthly Income $ 19,525
It's not even that June won't go out and try to sponsor
her 5 people. She probably will. And she may even do it
very quickly.
The problem. 2 of those 5 are off working other
programs and just joined because they thought they
would get massive spillover from her sponsor, Joe
Recruiter, who is suddenly nowhere to be found.
2 of the 5 actually try to recruit their 5 people, but
they don't know how to do it. June, being a newcomer,
doesn't know how to help them. So eventually they give
up and drop out.
Her 5th person is actually working dilligently to
recruit his 5 and has 3 by the end of his 2nd month. He
has also started to help those 3 learn more about the
company and approach some of their own prospects.
So after 3 months of work, June has 2 people who are
sitting around doing nothing, 2 who drop out after
trying and failing to recruit anyone, and 1 person
actually working who has sponsored 3.
That means she has 6 paying people in her downline
paying her $30 a month. Now that's a far cry from
$19,525, isn't it?
If you were in June's shoes, you'd probably think
exactly what she's thinking: that Vitamin's R' Us just
doesn't work! Or that MLM doesn't work!
What's wrong with this picture?
Actually, there is NOTHING wrong that can't be quickly
remedied with a little different change in focus!
June has made a good start. Not a terrific start, mind
you. But then, she's learning a whole new business, and
obviously her sponsor has already moved on to other
things.
Take a look. She has 2 members that are sitting around
not doing a thing. That's not great, but she is at
least earning a commission from their membership. And
with a little bit of work, she may even be able to
motivate these people at some point to get busy
building their own business!
2 people quit. But she has 1 member who is already busy
building his downline. He has sponsored 3 people,
putting $15 a month in her pocket. And remember, that's
income that she didn't have to do a thing to earn!
It is very likely that this member will keep on
sponsoring new people into her downline, and each will
pay her $5/month. More important, he is actually
TRAINING and WORKING WITH the people that he sponsors!
That should mean that HIS people will start duplicating
and sponsoring people as well. And every person that
they sponsor will ALSO put $5/month into her pocket.
Again, this is income she doesn't have to spend a penny
to earn.
Over time, this one member could add hundreds of people
to her downline, all paying her $5/month, and insure
that her network just keeps growing!
Has June failed? Not at all! It only takes a few good
people to increase your income by an incredible amount
over time.
But notice that I said "over time." It won't happen
overnight. Momentum only happens when you've been
building an organization long enough, and training your
downline long enough, to start experiencing many people
duplicating you.
I can guarantee you that it will take you a lot longer
to sponsor your first good person than your next 5! It
will take you longer to get into profit with your
chosen MLM program than to increase your income to $100
per month.
It will take you longer to get to $100/month, then to
increase your income to $500/month. And it will take
you longer to increase that to $1,000/month.
Do you understand what I'm trying to say? In the
beginning, you have no momentum and no leverage simply
because YOU are doing all the work. With your first
productive person, you now have twice as much work
being done. And at the same time, you don't have to
increase your advertising budget to double the
productivity of your network. Your one new person does
that for you.
With 5 productive people, you have five times as much
work being done as you could do by yourself. And as
these productive people sponsor more productive people,
your growth starts to gain more and more momentum.
As I train MLM'ers in The MLM Millionaire Training
Course, just finding 100 permanent, productive partners
over time just about guarantees you that you will be
earning a six-figure income! And you'll be making a
VERY NICE income long before you build your group to
100!
Unfortunately, most people never get to the point when
the momentum starts to happen simply because they've
already concluded that they are a failure at MLM, or
that their program doesn't work! They don't understand
that they need to first build a base of a few
productive people - then TRAIN them - before the
momentum will kick in and start multiplying their
earnings and their numbers.
Most people quit right before the magic starts to
happen!
If that has been your MLM experience, I challenge you
to pick one program and STICK WITH IT until you have 5
productive members. Train those members to find 5
productive members of their own. Don't quit until you
reach that goal.
And don't even think about whether your program is
working or not working. Programs neither "work" nor not
work. YOU are the one that must supply the work!
Now watch what happens in the next few months! I think
you're going to be very pleasantly surprised!
