"You Have to Think Like the Wealthy" by Dave Mauder
Dear Marketing Partner,
There are people who seem to effortlessly attract money and wealth, and then there are those who can't seem to hang on to a dime. The difference is a function of the mind and not a function of income or assets.
Building wealth is an ongoing battle; you will either win or lose. If you learn to maximize the use of your finances to increase your lifestyle -- you win! If you let others maximize the use of your hard-earned money for their benefit -- you lose.
Last year, total consumer debt climbed to around $7.5 TRILLION dollars, up from $1 trillion in 1996! According to a large credit counseling organization, the average American family is strapped with $48,000 in credit card debt, up from around $17,800 last year. Keep in mind; the average credit card debt was only $1,700 in 1996. These are some very disturbing numbers, and it’s only getting worse.
This doesn't have to be the accepted norm anymore. As Napoleon Hill said in his best seller, "Think and Grow Rich", "Anything your mind can conceive and believe, you can achieve!” Without a strong belief system, we easily allow money worries, and an "I can't" attitude to rob us of the financial success and life goals that we desire and deserve.
You can become wealthy without ever increasing your income. How? By developing a wealthy attitude. Wealth isn't just about money, it's about being the person you want to be, enjoying what you do in life, having good health and happy, fulfilling relationships.
To begin changing our attitude, we need to observe the actions of people that have already achieved what we want. In general, the successful person is willing to do that which the unsuccessful person is unwilling to do. Think about that -- it's such a simple reality.
The following values and qualities are evident in all wealthy people. As you read each one, think about people you know who possess these qualities. Begin to model the wealthy by incorporating their values and qualities into your own life.
You'll be amazed at the results!
1) Wealthy people talk less and listen more. They recognize the fact that there is something to learn from everyone. Instead of trying to impose their "wisdom" on everyone, they genuinely care about other people, and see each interaction as a learning moment. They spend about 10% of a conversation talking, and the other 90% listening -- intently.
2) Wealthy people ask questions. They are not led around blindly. They know a good deal when they see it is because they are not afraid to ask questions. They learn all they can about everything. Wealthy people know how to determine the best price and quality for their money.
3) Wealthy people are patient. They sit still long enough for prices to come down. They walk out on negotiations. They buy last year's model car and let someone else take the depreciation on the new one. Contrary to popular belief, rich folks do wait for things they want.
4) Wealthy people have a positive mental attitude. They don't let the little ups and down of life get to them. Everyone has problems, even the wealthy, but they choose to learn from adversity, rather than let it ruin them. Every wrong attempt is one step closer to the right answer.
5) Wealthy people gather information and use it. Whether it is an investment plan, long distance plan, college plan for the kids, business venture, or a new computer, they will research, learn, and compare before pulling out the wallet. Impulse purchases are rare.
6) Wealthy people work hard and are not afraid to be inconvenienced. This is one of their greatest secrets. They are meticulous about keeping track of their money and how it is being spent. They are not afraid to go the extra mile if it means they will save money.
7) Wealthy people respect and model other wealthy people. They associate with other people who have similar values, and they benefit from knowing and being with them. They network, keeping their ears, eyes, and minds open for new deals and fresh perspectives. They give to one another, bartering their skills and striking mutually beneficial agreements.
As you begin to implement these new values in your own life, an amazing transformation will begin to take place. You will develop the attitude of the wealthy and begin to experience the same success they experience. Your finances will follow, and soon you will have extra money to help pay off your debt. You will also begin to feel much more in control of your finances.
Attitude and values play a very important roll in your financial life. It is important to model the winning traits of those who have experienced the things you want to experience. Begin developing your new attitude today!
